  Uniforms

A school uniform is a mark of distinction and should be worn correctly and with pride.  One of the intentions of having uniforms is to create a sense of unity and to reduce competition on a material plane.  No exceptions to the uniform will be made.  Whenever a student is wearing her uniform, at school or away from school, she is expected to behave in an appropriate manner.

In grades 9-12 the uniform consists of:

·          Skirts - Duchesne plaid pleated skirt, Duchesne plain kilt skirt and Duchesne hunter green pleated skirts are allowed.  The skirt length must be no shorter than the top of the knee.

·          Slacks - Duchesne plaid slacks or blue slacks purchased only from Parker Uniform may be worn.

·          Walking shorts - Duchesne plaid walking shorts may be worn.

·          Oxford Shirt - Long or short sleeved oxford-type shirts in white, yellow, navy, or light blue which button in the front may be worn.  Shirts must have pointed or button-down collars, and must be tucked into skirts or slacks with the waistband visible.  Oversized shirts, men's shirts, or non-oxford type shirts are not permitted.  No decoration is allowed.  Only white T-shirts with the DASH logo may be worn beneath the oxford shirt.  The sleeve on the T-shirt worn beneath the oxford shirt must not be showing.

·          Overblouse - White short sleeved overblouses (from Parker Uniform only) may be worn.

·          Polo Shirts - Short sleeved cotton polo shirts in white, navy, yellow or forest green may be worn.  No long sleeved shirt of any kind may be worn under the short sleeved polo or oxford shirt unless covered by a long sleeved sweater or sweat top.

·          Socks - Bobby socks, crew socks, knee socks or opaque tights in white, yellow, navy, or hunter green may be worn.  Class color socks are not allowed.  No decoration is allowed.

·          Sweaters - Solid color white, navy, yellow or hunter green cardigans, V-necks and crew necks may be worn.  Sweater vests in solid navy, yellow, white or hunter green may be worn.  Monograms are the only decorations allowed.

·          Duchesne Sweatshirts - Navy sweatshirts with DASH logo and gray sweatshirts with plaid "D" may be worn as part of the daily uniform.  Knit Shirts and Turtlenecks - In solid white, navy, yellow, or hunter green may be worn beneath a uniform shirt during cold weather.

·          Fleece Jackets - Only those sold by the Duchesne Booster Club may be worn.

·          Jackets - Duchesne athletic jackets may be worn.

·          Shoes - Solid navy, black or brown loafers or tie shoes may be worn.  Athletic or tennis shoes, sandals, China doll, ballet or slipper-like shoes, moccasins, or high-top shoes are not acceptable.  If approved for medical reasons, tennis shoes must be white with minimal markings and must be kept clean.

·          Dress Uniform - Duchesne plaid kilt or Duchesne pleated plaid skirt, long sleeved white oxford-type shirt, navy pull-over sweater vest, navy blue, black, or dark brown shoes, and white bobby socks.  Opaque hose may be worn with white bobby socks during cold weather.  ON THE DAY(S) THAT DRESS UNIFORM IS REQUIRED, DRESS UNIFORM MUST BE WORN ALL DAY.  IF DRESS UNIFORM IS NOT WORN FOR A REQUIRED FUNCTION, THE STUDENT MAY RECEIVE A DETENTION.

·          P.E. Uniform - White T-shirt with DASH logo, navy blue mesh shorts with the student's name on the name bar, and navy blue warm-ups with the Duchesne logo may be worn.  P.E. uniforms are available in the bookstore.  Tennis shoes and sneakers for P.E. classes must have non-marking soles for use in the gym.  The T-shirt must be marked with the student's last name, visible to the teacher, on the left of the shirt.  Block print for the letters is recommended.  All other items should be labeled

NOTE: Signature clothing, hats and excessive jewelry are not part of the uniform and may not be worn in school.  Outer gear (coats, jackets) may not be worn to class except in unusual circumstances with faculty/administrative approval.  Hair dyed an unnatural color is not permissible.  Hairstyles that are a result of fads are inappropriate at Duchesne.  Tattoos and/or body piercing are not allowed.
