Endowment funds are critical to every independent school. These funds distribute to the School, in perpetuity, income and realized capital gains. There is no invasion of the principal, and the funds are used in accordance with the guidelines put in place when established. The principal is invested according to the investment policy of the Board of Trustees. Funds come to the endowment through gifts designated by donors, and through unrestricted capital gifts that the Trustees designate for endowment. The endowment ensures a strong future for Sacred Heart education in Houston. Duchesne Academy ’s endowment as of June 30, 2006 is $7.8 million.
Endowment gifts can be made at any time and they are vital components in the School ’s passion for excellence. Endowment Gifts can be used to:
• Provide scholarship assistance to deserving applicants from all backgrounds.
• Attract and retain faculty who model intellectual curiosity and have an enthusiasm for teaching through a distinguished teaching chair.
• Support and enhance professional development opportunities for talented faculty members.
The School’s priorities are dynamic and diverse, and endowment donors are able to match their philanthropic interests to a wide range of needs.
