Episcopal High School:

The Charger Tennis Team faced Episcopal at The Met on April 8.  Kate O'Carroll and Claire Ziemba played a tough match but made their opponents work for the victory.  Lisa Haapaniemi and Nicole Pantoja took down their opponents in a tight match, 8-6. Emily Hellmann played well against a very strong opponent, but lost her match 2-8.  Priya Bedi showed impressive play during her first singles match of the season, but lost in a final score of 7-8.  Jenna Dodge cruised past her opponent,

8-0.  Good job ladies!

District Tournament:

The Duchesne Charger tennis team traveled to Lost Forest Tennis Center on April 9 to participate in the District 3-6A Tournament.  To say the girls played well, is an understatement.  All of our teams made an impressive showing at District.  Emily Hellmann faced Chelsea Heckler of St. Agnes.  Emily had played her before, and played her even better this time.  She lost the first set 2-6, but came out fighting in the second set.  She pushed her opponent until the very end, losing in a tiebreak, 6-7.  Kate O'Carroll and Claire Ziemba battled against tough opponents Alison Wolters and Chelsea Woodlock of St. Agnes.  The girls fought hard, but lost in the end 4-6, 1-6.  Lisa Haapaniemi and Nicole Pantoja met Lauren Hillin and Laura Stoma of Beaumont Kelly during their first match of the day.  The easily swept the match 6-0, 6-0.  Their second match was against Jamie Pham and Mims Axelsen of St. Agnes.  This one went "down-to-the-wire."  Lisa and Nicole won the first set 7-5.  The second set went to a tiebreak, where Lisa and Nicole lost 6-7.  The third and final set was a 10 point tiebreak, and the girls lost by a heartbreaking score of 8-10.  Although they lost their second round match, Lisa and Nicole competed for third place against Colette Shelander and Phoebe Johnson of Beaumont Kelly.  Lisa and Nicole easily captured the 3rd place finish by dominating their opponents 6-0, 6-0!  Priya Bedi attended the district tournament as the team alternate.  Although she didn't compete in any matches, she cheered on all of her teammates, all day!  Thanks for your support Priya.  Jenna Dodge was the remaining singles player that competed.  She met Amy Turek of St. Pius for her first match.  She won the match easily by a score of 6-0, 6-0.  She then faced Lauren Fields of St. Agnes.  This match was certainly more competitive for Jenna.  However, she won by a score of 6-4, 6-3.  Jenna then competed in the singles championship match.  Her opponent was Sarah Altous of St. Pius.  By a match score of 6-1, 6-0, Jenna captured the title "Singles District Champion!"  Congratulations to all of the girls for their efforts and an overall team finish of 2nd place.
