Middle School Softball Stars Win The BIG One! - Last night our Slugging Super Stars know as the Duchesne Middle School Softball Team accomplished a 1st for Duchesne - They Won the HJPC Championship. Seeded 4th in the Tournament after an average 3-5 season record, these young ladies caught fire at the right time and vanquished the #1 and #2 seeded teams in the tournament on their way to the Championship. They won 3 games in 2 days with Rienzi Reckling pitching all three games. However, this was not a one person show at all! This was a great team effort with fielding becoming as important as batting. While our pitching was strong, our defense was stronger and rose to the occasion when required. Hats off to the Team! Joining Rienzi was: Morgan Nash behind the plate, Lyndie Rios at First, Addison Green at Second, Kalyn Speck at Short, Anna Buvens at Third, with Brittany Ramesh, Maddie Desrochers, Kaylee Connor, and Shelby Perlick in the Outfield. On bases it was Yuri Terada and at the plate it was Ginny Montalbano. In the Dugout it was Robin Estus, Allie Nassar, Lilly Pham and Elizabeth Lippman cheering and supporting their teammates all through these exciting and difficult games. Great work to all including Coach Chien and Coach Speck for an outstanding finish to a wonderful season.
Upper School Track Team is Going to State! - Last night our Varsity Track Team participated in the District 3-6A Championship Meet at St. Thomas Hotze Field. As the dust settled from all of the jumping, throwing and running our Chargers qualified 9 athletes for the State Track Meet to be run in Waco next Friday and Saturday. It was a very exciting event with the final outcome of the meet being undecided until the last event. Regretfully, The Charges lost the Championship by 6 points to Saint Agnes, but literally ran away from St. Pius X, Incarnate Word and Beaumont Kelly. In the process Duchesne had several District Champions crowned. Freshman distance specialist Shannon Klenke won both the 3200 and 1600 meter runs in outstanding fashion. Meagan McCormack and Kim Horrell flew through the air with the greatest of easy and are now District Champions in the High Jump and Pole Vault respectfully. Brianna Shay bounced brilliantly and is now recognized as the District Champ in the Triple Jump. And finally, the 4 x 200 meter Relay of Brianna, Kim Horrell, Allie Burks and Christina Calderon are also wearing the crown as District Champs. To go to State requires an athlete to finish in the Top 2 in an event. Joining the aforementioned ladies will be, Mary Witte in the High Jump, Meridith Chavez in the 4x400 Relay, and Delores Lozano in the 400 meter Sprint. Good Luck at State! Bring home some WOOD!
Tennis Squad sends 3 to State - Despite it being a rebuilding year for the Duchesne Tennis Team, our Charger Net-sters finished second at the District Tournament last week and are send 3 ladies to the State Meet in Waco this weekend. Freshman Baseliner Jenna Dodge upset everyone and took honors as District Champion in Singles. Our dynamic Duo in doubles, Lisa Haapaniemi and Nicole Pantoja placed third thereby also winning a ticket to Waco. We wish them well. Ask how they did on Tuesday. I just heard via the internet that Jenna just won her first match out of four. Go Chargers!
MS Track Team Sparkles at the Conference Meet - The future looks bright in track as our Middle School 6th, 7th and 8th grade teams combined to take overall honors at the HJPC Track Meet. Our 8th graders finished second in their division. Our 7th graders also finished second in their division in a very close finish with the competition. And our novice 6th graders acquitted themselves admirably by placing 3rd in their division. Overall however, Duchesne outpointed the other teams in combined scoring by outscoring St. John's School by 4 points. An awesome effort by all of our teams and hats off to our passionate Coaches Lisa Zorn and Sandy Sinclair who inspire these young ladies to work hard and do their best.
Finally, we are looking for pictures to use at our MS and US athletic awards assemblies in May. If you have or know of some great pictures we could use, please send them to Mr. Rollins in our athletic Department. Go Chargers!
